How many lessons?

Many people ask 'How long will it take to learn all the required skills to drive and pass the driving test?    If you look at the statistics available from gov.uk, it takes on average 44 hours of tuition from an Advanced Driving Instructor (ADI) to pass your driving test. In addition, the DVSA recommend on average 22 hours private practice as well.

The table below shows you an example of the number of hours needed to learn and practice the skills required to become a safe driver.  Please note, this is NOT A GUARANTEE.  Everyone is different and learns at different speeds. Don't compare yourself to others. Some will learn faster, and some will take more time.  Some subjects and skills may need to be revisited and more practice may be required. This is something that your driving instructor will always be open and upfront about and discuss with you.  They may even adjust the plan to suit you specifically, especially if you already have some driving experience.  Remember, as a driving instructor, we want you to pass!  But we also want you to be ready and not rush the process.  Therefore, this is just a guide.

The numbers in brackets in the table below in the subject column represent the section of the DL25 Driving Assessment form that is used on a Car Driving Test.  This form is publicly available on gov.uk should you wish to see it. You can also link directly to more information on this by clicking HERE.

You should always discuss your learning with your driving instructor. It is not a race, but rather a journey.  A journey to safe driving for life.
